Washington is an 'absolute mess' under Trump, says former Dutch ambassador

The former Dutch ambassador to the US has given an interview to the NRC in which he describes the ‘absolute mess’ in Washington under the presidency of Donald Trump. Henne Schuwer, who retired this summer, was appointed to the US job in 2015 and told the paper that Trump is ‘sawing away’ at the fundamentals of society. ‘Of course he has done good things. More money is going to Nato and he has reformed the 1986 tax system,’ said Schuwer.... More >

Netherlands labour to 2-1 win in Belarus

The Netherlands stayed on track to qualify for Euro 2020 with a hard-fought win over Belarus in Minsk on Sunday. Georginio Wijnaldum’s two first-half goals looked to have put Oranje on course for a routine victory. Wijnaldum headed in Quincy Promes’s cross from close range just after the half-hour mark and doubled the scoreline 10 minutes later with a shot into the top corner from 20 metres. But the sporadically dangerous Belarusians hit back 10 minutes after half-time when Stanislav... More >

Dutch lung specialists are launching a 24/7 hotline for doctors to report problems associated with smoking e-cigarettes, the AD said on Friday. Some three-quarters of e-cigarette users in the Netherlands use liquids containing nicotine, the AD said. On Monday, specialists called for a total ban on e-cigarettes on... More >
