Agreement reached on police pay

Police unions and home affairs ministry officials have reached agreement on a new pay deal for the country’s 53,000 police officers. The deal was reached after late-night talks on Tuesday.

The independent mediator appointed to solve the long-running dispute, Doekle Terpstra, told reporters he could not reveal details of the deal until it has been approved by home affairs minister Guusje ter Horst. He hopes this will take place later today.
However, on Wednesday morning, police union ACP denied that a deal has been reached. ‘There is still no pay and conditions agreement,’ a spokesman was reported as saying by news agency ANP.
